Компонент церемонии открытия. После того как Глава государства откроет игры, Олимпийский флаг, развернутый горизонтально, вносится на стадион под почтительную музыку национального происхождения. По традиции флаг проносят перед живой аудиторией вокруг всего периметра стадиона. На входе флаг следует пронести мимо трибуны почета, а потом вокруг стадиона. По традиции флаг несут от восьми до десяти человек.

raising the Olympic flag
Part of the opening ceremony. After the Head of State opens the Games, the Olympic flag, unfurled horizontally, is brought into the stadium accompanied by respectful and dignified music of national origin. It is customary for the Olympic flag to be carried 360 degrees in view of the live audience around the stadium field’s perimeter. The flag should pass the Tribune of Honor upon entry, and then proceed around the stadium. By custom, the flag is carried by eight to ten people.

Традиционный ритуал церемонии открытия. После того как Олимпийский флаг поднят, спортсмен страны-организатора поднимается на подиум. Держа в левой руке уголок Олимпийского флага и поднимая правую руку, спортсмен произносит следующую торжественную клятву: «От имени всех спортсменов я обещаю, что мы будем участвовать в этих Олимпийских играх, уважая и соблюдая правила, по которым они проводятся, обязуясь соревноваться без применения допинга и наркотиков, в истинно спортивном духе, во славу спорта и во имя чести своих команд».

Traditional opening ceremony ritual. After the Olympic flag has been raised, a competitor of the host country mounts the rostrum. Holding a corner of the Olympic flag in his/her left hand, and raising the right hand, the athlete recites the following solemn oath: “In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.”

Сразу после клятвы спортсменов, судья из страны-организатора поднимается на трибуну и, так же, как спортсмены, держа в левой руке уголок Олимпийского флага и поднимая правую руку, произносит следующую клятву судей: «От имени всех судей и официальных лиц я обещаю, что мы будем выполнять наши обязанности на этих Олимпийских играх с полной беспристрастностью, уважая и соблюдая правила, по которым они проводятся, в истинно спортивном духе».
